Drain Cleaning in Phoenix
Clogged sink, tub or main line? We clear it, find out why it clogged, and give you the price before we start. 24/7 emergency service.
What We Do When You Call About a Clog
We clear the blockage, then work out why it happened. A licensed and insured plumber arrives, finds out whether the clog is in one fixture line or the main sewer line, and clears it with the right tool: a cable machine for a simple stoppage, a high-pressure jetter for grease, scale and roots, and a sewer camera when the line keeps giving you trouble.
You get a free estimate and an upfront price before any work starts. If sewage is backing up right now, we offer 24/7 emergency service. Call, and we will tell you what to do while you wait.

One Slow Drain, or the Whole House?
Start with a simple question: how many fixtures are acting up? The answer tells you which part of the plumbing has the problem, and it changes what we do.
One fixture is slow or stopped. The clog is on that fixture's own branch line, usually hair, soap scum or food waste in a sink, tub or shower. This is the simplest kind of clog to clear. Our guide to fixing a slow-draining sink covers what you can safely try first.
Several fixtures are slow at once. When a shower gurgles as the washing machine drains, or a toilet bubbles when you run the kitchen sink, the blockage is in the shared drain or the main sewer line. Waste finds the lowest opening first, so the tub or a floor drain is often where it shows up. Here is how to tell a main line clog from a single drain clog. If it is the main line, stop running water and call us.
The same drain clogs again and again. A repeat clog means something is still in the pipe: a grease coating, scale, roots or a bad joint. See why the same drain keeps clogging. This is where a camera and, often, hydro jetting pay off.
Signs You Need Drain Cleaning
Cable Machine, Hydro Jetting or Camera?
We do not use one method for everything. The tool depends on what is in the pipe.
| Method | Best for | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Cable machine (snake) | Hair, food waste, a one-time stoppage in a single line | Opens a hole in the clog but can leave the pipe walls coated |
| Hydro jetting | Grease, scale, sludge, roots and repeat clogs in main lines | Not for broken or collapsed pipe, so we camera the line first |
| Sewer camera | Finding the cause of a repeat backup, locating a break or a root intrusion | Shows the problem but does not clear it, so it pairs with a snake or jetter |
A snake is faster and gentler for a simple clog, and we say so when that is all you need. When a line has backed up more than once, jetting cleans the pipe wall itself. Read the full explanation in what hydro jetting is and how it works, or see our hydro jetting service.
The Right Cable for Each Drain
We carry four different types of drain cleaning machines on the truck, so the machine fits the drain instead of the other way around. That choice matters more than most people think.
A bathtub, kitchen sink or bathroom sink drain is small pipe. The plumbing code Phoenix enforces sets the minimum trap size at 1 1/4 inches for a bathroom sink and 1 1/2 inches for a tub or a kitchen sink. We clear those drains with a small cable, 1/4 inch and never more than 1/2 inch. We feed it far enough to drop into the main, where the larger pipe is, and run it through the line several times so the whole drain is clear, not just the first few feet.
You never want a plumber running a large machine through a bathtub or kitchen drain. A heavy cable built for a main sewer line is the wrong size for those small pipes and their tight bends, and it can damage your lines. The big machines go in at a cleanout, on the main line, where they belong. More on the tools in the difference between a toilet auger and a drain snake.
What Happens on the Service Call
- We ask what you have seen. Which fixtures, how long, and whether you poured a chemical cleaner. That last one matters for safety.
- We find the blockage. We locate the cleanout or the fixture access and work out whether it is a branch line or the main.
- You get the price first. We give you a free estimate and an upfront price. You approve it before we start.
- We clear the line. Cable, jetter or both, depending on what we find.
- We check the result. We confirm the line runs freely. For repeat or main line clogs, we run a camera to see the pipe and tell you what we saw.
If the camera shows a broken pipe or a collapsed section, drain cleaning will not fix it. We explain the situation and your sewer repair options. You decide what happens next.
What Affects the Cost of Drain Cleaning
We do not post prices on this page because the job decides the price, not a menu. Here is what changes it:
- Which line is blocked. A fixture branch is a smaller job than a main sewer line.
- How far in the clog sits and how much access we have. A cleanout close to the blockage saves time. Without one, we may have to work through a fixture or the roof vent.
- The method the clog needs. A cable pass, hydro jetting or a camera inspection each take different equipment and time.
- What is causing it. Grease, roots and scale take longer than a hair clog.
- When you call. A middle-of-the-night emergency call is a different visit from a scheduled one, and the estimate reflects that.
The way to get an exact number is the free estimate. You get the price up front, before any work starts. Simple as that.
Why Drains Clog Here
Valley plumbing has its own habits. Phoenix water is hard, which means minerals leave scale inside pipes over the years. Scale narrows the pipe and gives grease and hair something to catch on. See how hard Phoenix water is for what that does to a home's pipes.
Mature trees are another one. Roots find the small gaps in older sewer lines and grow into them, and a root-filled line can be cleared but will grow back unless the joint is fixed. If you have an older home and a big tree near the sewer line, check the signs of tree roots in a sewer line. And when a monsoon storm hits, some Valley homes see drains backing up during monsoon season.
What To Do While You Wait
If a drain is backing up, these steps help and none of them make it worse:
- Stop running water in the house, including the washer and dishwasher.
- Do not flush the toilets again if sewage is coming up.
- Keep kids and pets away from any standing wastewater.
- Skip the chemical drain opener. Caustic cleaners can burn skin on contact, and they leave a hazard for whoever works on the line next.
- Tell us if you already used one, and where it went.
For small clogs you can handle yourself, our guides on a bathtub that will not drain and a toilet that keeps clogging walk through the safe steps. To keep drains clear afterward, see what not to put down the drain.
Residential and Commercial Drain Service
We clear kitchen, bathroom, laundry and main lines in homes across the Valley. We also serve businesses, where a restaurant grease line or a shared main can shut down a day's work. Commercial drain cleaning is its own page, with details on grease lines and scheduled service. For restaurants, hotels, retail sites and other commercial plumbing, we use cabling equipment on the smaller jobs and hydro jetting equipment on the larger ones.
When should I stop DIY and call a plumber for a clog?
Stop DIY when more than one drain is slow, water backs up into a different fixture, you hear gurgling or smell sewage, the clog returns within days, or you already poured chemical cleaner. Those signs point to a main line or vent problem. One sink or tub that clears with a plunger or snake is fair DIY.

A drain snake punches a hole through a clog so water flows again. Hydro jetting uses up to 4,000 PSI water to scour the full interior of the pipe, removing grease, scale, and roots a snake leaves behind. Snake for one-time clogs, jet for recurring backups, commercial drains, and grease lines.

A drain that keeps clogging has a root cause that simple clearing leaves behind: a blocked vent, a partial obstruction a snake only bored through, a low spot (belly) in the pipe, grease or hard-water scale recoating the walls, or a developing main-line problem. A camera inspection finds the real cause.

Safe alternatives to chemical drain cleaners are mechanical: a cup plunger, cleaning the P-trap, a hooked wire or plastic hair strip, and a drain snake. A strainer keeps clogs from returning, and an enzymatic product helps with light buildup. Baking soda and vinegar only loosens a thin film. Skip caustic cleaners.
