Check the model and complete serial number on the pressure-assisted flushing system against its manufacturer's official recall notice. The toilet's outside brand or age alone is insufficient. Some Flushmate series and date ranges have separate recalls. Stop using a confirmed recalled system and follow the specific manufacturer remedy; do not open its pressure vessel.
Identify the internal flushing system
Remove the ordinary china lid carefully only if it is intact and safe to handle. Do not remove parts from the black pressure vessel beneath it. Flushmate's official notices locate the model and serial label on top of the system. Photograph the full label rather than relying on a partial date or an outside tank number.
A cracked lid, visibly damaged tank or suspected vessel failure needs professional help before handling. Keep the toilet out of use and do not disassemble, drill or patch the pressure vessel. This page is an identification guide, not pressure-vessel repair instructions.
Use the notice for the exact series
Flushmate's current Flushmate III notice identifies Series 503 units manufactured from October 14, 1997 through April 30, 2011. Its recall FAQ explains that verification uses the complete serial number. CPSC's 2016 expansion covers the later portion of that range and references earlier recalled production. Check the manufacturer's current recall channel rather than reading that expansion as the only affected range.
Flushmate II 501-B has a separate notice, different identifying information and a different remedy. It covers systems manufactured from September 3, 1996 through December 7, 2013. The III date range and repair-kit instructions must not be applied to the II system.
What should you do after confirming a recall?
The official notices warn that the vessel can burst near its weld seam, releasing pressure that can lift or shatter the tank. Stop using a confirmed affected system and follow the exact manufacturer's shutdown and remedy instructions. Contact the recall channel for clarification if the label is unreadable, a previous repair is uncertain or the unit looks damaged. Do not treat normal flushing as evidence that a recalled system can remain in use.
For another kind of fixture failure, when to replace a toilet covers damaged china. Choosing a toilet explains gravity and pressure-assisted designs. If replacing a component, tank and bowl compatibility still requires an approved combination, separate from recall verification.
