Moen's Health Test closes its valve and monitors plumbing pressure stability when water use is unlikely. Water use can cancel and reschedule it. Investigate failed results even when Current Flow looks normal: the functions measure differently. Review the actual event and seek help for repeated unexplained failures; the test does not locate the leak.
What is the Health Test checking?
Check the exact event label before treating every app message as the same alarm. A failed nightly Health Test is different from a critical water-use event that already closed the valve. Record the time, test result, operating mode and any visible plumbing symptoms before changing settings.
Moen describes a daily automatic test during a period when the home is unlikely to use water. The valve closes and the device monitors pressure stability for several minutes. Water use during the test can cancel it and prompt another attempt.
For a genuinely planned unusual water-use event, review Sleep Mode's protection tradeoff separately. An unexplained test warning is not a reason to leave monitoring suspended.
This checks the covered plumbing under particular conditions; it is not a camera locating a pipe defect. Do not treat a canceled test as a passed inspection, or infer a universal numeric pressure-loss limit that the actual product instructions do not supply.
Why can the flow display look normal?
Moen says the test can detect small drips that are not visible on the app's Current Flow meter. Different measurement functions therefore should not be treated as identical evidence. An apparently zero flow display does not by itself explain or dismiss a failed Health Test.
The existing water-meter leak test uses another measurement method. Its result does not establish that a particular Flo event was invalid or identify which downstream branch the Flo installation covers.
Inspect accessible symptoms before changing protection
Moen's guide recommends checking dripping faucets, hose bibs, toilets and accessible fixture shutoffs. Record visible moisture and toilet refill behavior from a safe position. Do not force a stuck stop, open a wall or leave a suspected leak running to see whether the next test notices it.
A provider can establish which branches, irrigation or appliances are downstream of the device and whether an isolated test is appropriate. Keep required fire-water arrangements protected. Leak investigation explains why a symptom and its actual source need separate checks.
What if the valve already shut the water off?
Moen's separate shutoff-event guidance says to review alert history and restore water only when it is safe. Do not reopen supply into an active leak simply to clear an app warning. The event may involve prolonged use or high flow, rather than the same finding as the Health Test.
For repeated unexplained test failures, contact product support or a qualified plumber with the records and any fixture observations. Smart-valve limits remain: neither one passing test nor a functioning valve proves every pipe sound, and dismissing an alert does not repair its cause.
